Colorful food

What colorful food do you eat?

One of my favorite funky colored food that we have is homemade sauerkraut.  It's super easy to make, and if you use a purple cabbage in the mix, you get purple sauerkraut.

We have been trying to add more fermented foods to our diet.  So far, sauerkraut and kombucha are about all we do regularly.  I have made fermented carrots, which I like to eat with meat, but only one of the kids likes it (forgetting now who)...

Anyway, I took this picture of our lunch one day to share:
On an unrelated note, I love the picture in this post.

Fire Pit

Chris made a fire pit out back. Cool, huh?

So far, we have roasted marshmallows, cooked hot dogs and warmed up leftover potato wedges on it. Chris and the boys even made a mountain pie.  I was inside with a newborn at the time.  But I look forward to having some tasty meals around our fire pit this summer!

Goose Eggs!

Just before John was born, we bought a quarter of beef.  (What does that have to do with goose eggs, seriously!)

Well, the people who sold us the beef also sold us about ten pounds of liver.  We have been eating a lot more liver recently.  It has lots of iron and other things that are great for you.  Plus it's fun that our kids like liver.  Ben even declared that, "liver is the best meat because it's not tough like beef, or chicken, or lamb..." I wouldn't say it's the best meat, but I do like it fried with onions and gravy! (Really, WHERE are you going with this!?)

Four white goose eggs and one brown chicken egg

Also, the people who sold us the beef and the liver have geese.  (Finally, we get to the geese!)  So, we bought some goose eggs.  They were big.  We scrambled them up for breakfast one Saturday morning.  They tasted just like chicken!.... eggs. :-)

All on an (almost) summer's day!

I really do want to blog. I promise. It's just that I have these little people to take care of and I get distracted. I either have to ignore them or something else in my house to blog. Today it's the dishes, if you are wondering. Scroll down, and you'll see!

So I just took some quick pics with my phone (almost all the pics on here are phone shots, but you can probably tell that from the quality!) To show you what our day held for us today.

These do not include decluttering the dining room table, the multiple trips to the potty with Ellie, or the many meltdowns she's had today. But now all is quiet and I am typing this instead of doing the dishes, so it's all good. Enjoy.  Hope to catch you up on all the other stuff floating in my head soon!
Love, Janet.

Introducing...

Hi.

I know it's been awhile. Introducing the reason for my absence: john.

He's pretty cute I guess. :-)
